Revenge on the fried mozzarella

I had such a wonderful weekend.

I guess it really started when I was sitting at a pub watching the eagles play the swans. I don't hang out much with the boys because all they do is club. But this afternoon was a lazy one, and I was chatting with old school mate Ash when he mentions that he's still in touch with Angelo.

'Angelo?' i asked, 'Hey, is Audrey here too"
'YAH, she's here' he replied, 'she's been here for a couple of years already'.
'A couple of years!!!?!!' I repeated, before realising I was starting to sound like a broken recorder....
'CALL ANGELO NOW AND PUT AUDREY ON'

That's who I spent the weekend with. HAHAHAHAHAHA. She was a nut then, and is still a nut now, but i love that nut

I never thought ANYONE else would remember our attempt at THE tiramisu (besides angelo who was force-fed most of it), beer battered mushrooms and fried mozzarrella sticks. But Audrey did! And she has such a great memory for details. So what started of as me just hanging around while she did her stuff, ended up in our quest to right the wrong, and avenge our reputation for fried mozzarella.

And boy we shoarrrrrr did, yes sireeeee.

P A N K O !!!!

Audrey informed me that panko (japanese breadcrumbs) is different from regular breadcrumbs cos it's been freeze dried. That's why it tastes and looks different to other breadcrumbs. She also had this wonderful tomato sauce that she slow-cooked with garlic and herbs. We dipped our deep-fried panko-ed mozzarella in the sauce...It was YUMMMYYY

Fresh broadbeans

Neither of us had tried fresh broadbeans before. I saw some on the shelf and slipped a handful into my basket so that I could add some to the chorizo and lentil soup I was making. When Audrey walked past the broadbeans she too picked up a bunch! She asked, 'hey ren, do you want to try some broadbeans....' and when I sheepishly showed her the bunch i had put into the basket just a few seconds earlier, we both just cracked up!

Mybakuteh used to buy the dried ones, soaked then boiled them, and we'ld have them as a snack- we loved them! So I was delighted to be able to try fresh broadbeans. They are so green- like peas! And they taste nutty and creamy. How wonderful! :)

Olives stuffed with danish blue cheese.. soooooo salty but soooooo good.

Haha. There are some things that I'm embarrassed to admit. But when I tell it to Audrey, she UNDERSTANDS, and I don't feel so silly anymore. Like when I told her how I searched high and low for a melon baller (used that to make the watermelon bowl, remember  ) she promptly whipped hers out and we had rockmelon balls with proscuitto. LOL. A kindred baller! WHAT ARE THE ODDS.

Audrey also made this awesome field mushroom with bush herbs, (more) blue cheese and (more more more) mozzarella and it was sooo juicy and succulent. We gobbled it down before i remembered to take a picture.

I just love how sometimes life brings about such unexpected surprises, and people who inspire you so much.
